I have a 1990 RX7 Convertible, and there's this strange light always on at the back, no matter what its on.

The radio itself is off, just this little light flickering the back. Needless to say it kills the battery, so I wanna remove the radio till I get a new one...Anyone got any picture or detailed description of how?

 

Is it a stock radio or aftermarket?

 

Stock.

 

Well, first the stock radio will not stay powered after the key is turn off or removed, unless someone has hacked up the wiring somewhere else in the car, or there are fuses blown or removed. Also the power antenna replaced and wired improperly will also cause a back feed.


That said to remove the stock radio:

Remove the shifter surround and ash tray, and center console vents (they all pop up or pull off).

Then there are two screws behind the center console vents, as well as the ash tray, remove those.

Pull the radio surround out.

4 screws holding the stock radio into the dash frame. Remove those. You can get to the back of the radio and unplug the plugs.

But again, if it is the stock radio, unless someone has hacked up the wiring, or you have blown fuses, the stock radio will not stay on once the key is removed or in the off position. So if the wiring is indeed hacked up, or there are missing or blown fuses (or a improperly installed antenna) pulling the radio will not solve any problems, and you will have the same problem with an aftermarket radio.

 

Well its probably a blown fuse, since it only started after I jumped the car after the battery died in the cold.


So finding which one is the issue.

 

Room, Antenna or Audio fuse is the most likely.

yeah, with the room fuse blown the idiot light panel and door dome light circuits can backfeed through all the other circuits in the car that are using a memory or constant power.
