Rebuild or buy?
I have a blown engine From a 93 Rx-7 and probably a bad trans. I eventually want to do a street port and a single turbo set up. I live in Houston and am wondering which is the cheaper way to go. A) buy a new engine and trans and then do the street port or B) try and fix my old. Thanks

I have been pricing parts and labor and it almost seems like it's the same price to get a used engine and trans. Anyone know of anyone selling a used streetported engine in Tx? Haha thanks for the help so far guys.

problem with anything used as far as these engines go, people usually don't offload them for no good reason taking a hit on their investment.

go to Ari in Garland as Josh mentioned, don't waste your time with an original used engine or you will regret it. worst case buy a rebuilt used engine that can be compression tested, preferrably with low miles.

Have the old engine taken apart and inspected by someone who knows rotary engines. Many of the parts can probably be re-used, it just depends on why its not running and how bad it is.
If the irons and rotors are re-usable you'll probably just need some rotor housings. Depends.
Either way have someone who knows what they're doing look at it, or like Karack said, you'll end up having a car that doesn't run and maybe back at square one.

Thanks everyone. It sounds like the rebuild is the way to go. Has anyone worked with rotary performance or any other shops they can recommend? Thanks for all the insight so far.
