rear main seal leaking

just picked up a 93 FD from a member. noticed some wetness on the bottom of the car, and it appears the rear main seal is leaking. it has already been replaced within the last year or so.
anyone else have a similiar problem or advice? thanks
john

It isnt the rear seal, it is the oil pan. This is a normal problem with the FD's. Most people just have to live with it, it isnt going to hurt anything

Yes, if you use the right RTV and you follow the tightening procedure.

I generally use Permatex Copper silicon gasket goo. This is in FCs though. From what I understand the FD is more leak prone. On FCs anyway, I always replace the bolts with some about 1/4" longer and then use wide fender washers to distribute the load. A skim coat of goo on each side of the gasket and I have not had one leak yet.

I've heard good things on this forum about using Honda Bond, but never tried it myself.

Hondabond or Permatex's "The Right Stuff" are preferred on FDs.

There are other tricks like an oil pan brace, dimpling the flange, etc to improve the seal further. There are links to this information in the 3rd Gen FAQ.
