Question Quick temperature question.

So, my temp gauge does not climb. Stays damn near all the way cold (and I do let the car warm up before driving). However, the car does run at a normal operating temp from what I can tell. Heater heats up, engine gets warm (not hot!). I will mention that this car has a Koyo and a giant e-fan as well as all the emissions removed. Any insight?

-car is 88 GXL

Peas and Thanks.

Looks like your thermostat stays open.

If you want to replace it only buy an OEM one!

s4 (86-88) cars have a linear temp gauge and are only about 1/3 of the way up the gauge when at normal operating temp. I wouldn't be too concerened unless the needle doesn't move at all, then I'd replace the thermostat as mentioned above.

engine operating temp. is very important. Too cool and the oil does not lub. and clean as it should, it also gets diluted and collectes condensation (water). All bad stuff for the motor.

Spoke with the previous owner, and he just installed an OEM thermostat recently. The cold weather could also be a factor. I think it's time to buy a real temp gauge.
