Stoich for propane is 15.5:1 so leaner than petrol at 14.7:1, however energy density is much less so you end up needing more propane.

thanks. i fail at serch then. appologys.

my intrest in converting is to possibly register my 76' rx-4 as a alternative fuel vehicle to get around emmissions requirements here in california.

As far as I remember propane is also trickier to manage, specially since you have two gasses (Air and propane) displacing each other. One of the other problems you can encounter is the delivery of oil since you can't premix propane.

It is also much bulkier requiring a heaving and bigger tank for storage.

13bt running almost 1 bar boost ..... 20 L per hundred KM... city cycle
propane/butane LPG mix.. HD5 propane will push things out to around 22 L per hundred KM

all done using standard impco 225 feedback and model E convertor components onto 13bt manifolds

very very simple to do .. very simple to tune,, very reliable ..and runs very smooth..

tank space often dictates range limitations..especially in rx7s ..
an rx4 isnt so compromised due to the large boot

however propane/ LPG will drop some power while totally NA
( especially mixer type propane installs )

but add the turbo.. and most negatives turn to plus's

also be sure to go the DLIDFIS ignition route as a minimum to ensure the quality spark that LPG will demand

awsome!

the hassel of having to haul around propane tanks i feel is way less of a hassel than trying to get a 1976 rx-4 with no engine, california smog compliant.

thank you for your input bumpstart

PS.. much advised you select a motor with housing oil injection .. and use the OMP .. dry fuel means no dilution of the injected lube oil .. the standard OMP works fine and wear is minimal
( i have pulled engines down at various Km to find them very clean and wear minimal )

I think the Best PLUS on this System would be when you go to Car meets...(stay with me now..)
You can disconnect your fuel and Attach it to the Barbeque grill and cook Burgers!...Car broiled!

all wise cracks aside .. LPG can be the answer for those facing periodic emissions testing

an example is my rx7,, sans all airpump and cat and other controls .. with a tired jap engine .. 5 gas tested.. surpassing euro2 codes ( the new car code then enforced here in 2005 )

in australia LPG is cheap.. around half the cost of 98 RON octane petrol .. and is around 100- 103 RON octane

where people sprout the disadvantages in energy density .. dont see the obvious 11 : 1 mixtures most petrol rotaries run to survive at 1 bar boost
an LPG rotary will do that at safely at close to lambda.. ( 15.5 ) but best power is around 13.5:1

thus mostly correcting any energy density disadvantage
.. all while being very low on hydrocarbon and CO emisisons
...and also lower than any LPG piston engine for N0x

a simple observation that at 1 bar .. ( like mine ) a 13bt stage 2/ 3 highflow with no cat exhaust system will be putting close to 300 rwhp down

im using 20 L LPG per hundred KM ( metric is so much nicer )

a similar / typical microtech 300 rwhp petrol 13bt will have at very least upgraded secondaries .. and be using very close to 18 L per hundred KM

20 x 74 c ( todays LPG price ) = $14.80.. per hundred Km

18 x 1.43 c ( todays PULP price 95 RON ) =$25.74 ... per hundred Km

18 x 1.48 c ( todays 98 RON price )= $26.78

microtech petrol = fail emissions test for engine year of build
LPG vapour mixer conversion with feedback = pass engine year emissions,, even without cat ( laws subject to change in some areas )
also.. im now allowed inlet manifold and inlet tract modifications .. when others in same state are not .....hello legal front mount..

all i see is cake.. im eating it ....

Last edited by bumpstart; Jan 8, 2013 at 12:38 AM. Reason: PS.. motors and turbos pull down to be exceptionally clean.. 300 rwhp microtech petrol engines.. definately not
