Problems after carb rebuild
Hi there. My friend and I rescued a 1985 12A from a police auction and we've slowly been nursing it back to health. One of the final steps we've taken is rebuilding the carb. I have two problems/questions that I think only some RX-7 aficionados would be able to help me with.
I'd like to preface this with me being the eager-but-dumb one, and my friend being the more mechanically inclined.
First: in removing the carburetor, we've snapped a fragile valve that was connecting two hoses. We honestly can't figure out what it's for. It looks a lot like the picture below, except instead of white/teal it is black and green and a little bit narrower. It was on one of the lines on the passenger side of the carb. If anyone out there can advise me on what the little bugger is there to do, and if it is relevant to problem #2, I'd be appreciative.
Second: After rebuilding the carb, the car can't idle anymore. Beforehand, it was backfiring a lot, seemed to get stuck with the fuel flow, and generally funky carb-related problems. After we rebuilt it, putting a load on the engine sounds ten times better and it seems overall to have been a good investment. The downside is, if we aren't trying to accelerate/keep the car above 1500 or so RPMs, the car dies. Unless, of course, we let it warm up for quite a while - at which point, it'll stay alive, but it sounds real, real nasty. Chugging and wanting for all its worth to stop running. All the floats are to manufacturer specs, and other than idling the thing sounds healthy as an ox.
Anyone out there throw some knowledge/suggestion/pointers my way regarding what that valve is, and what could be the culpret?

im having the same problem after i rebuilt my engine AND carb i cant get it to idle..when i do get it to start i cant let it go down to less then 3k or else it will just shut down..i cant imagine what it is..i dont have any vac leak's or emissions..my guess is that the carb was a bunk rebuild...
that picture is a one way valve..and is for vaccume im sure. you can replace it with any one way valve..as long as your remember where it goes and which direction its supposed to flow.
