WI Pretty but quirky 91 NA

Just picked up my 91 RX-7 NA last night. 90k, Red, no rust! Exterior is beautiful but I know I have a lot to do to the interior. I'll be doing some searches but I'll just toss up my initial impressions of technical difficulties.

-AC and PS has been removed. Tubing just sliced off.. nothing plugged. We'll see what that causes. Likely nothing but just a bad job...

-Spectre cold air intake which has left the smog pump tubing sliced and connected to nothing

-On the drive home the car started loping at idle after a hard pull from a stop. Like a string trimmer when the trigger is pulled and released in a perfect sine wave fashion... weeeooooweeeoooo...

-Lots of wood screws... not into wood... Basically none of the interior screws or bolts is correct.

-Engine bay sprayed so I can't see brake fluid level, any info on fuse boxes, etc...

-Audi seats installed that hardly adjust and on the passenger side makes contact with the door when closed.

-FTP doesn't work, nor horn, nor brights that I could figure out. Read that's a cpu board issue.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.... If anyone has immediate fixes they care to share I'm all ears. Otherwise I'll be searching before I post much.

Sounds like not many "problems", just an old car that needs some saving.

Your lighting issue could be originating from anywhere, even as simple as the bulbs being out or not plugged in. Obviously someone has had their hands ALL over this car, so I'd start at the lights with a meter and work back from there.

Do you need to pass emissions? If not, it's very common for 7 owners to remove most/all of the emissions related components, so I wouldn't fret. Chances are your surging idle may be related to the work of the previous owner. Familiarize yourself with the "rats nest" and decide what you want to keep and what you want to get rid of. From there your troubleshooting should be easier once you know what you're looking at. If you want to replace those items they're plentiful in the classified section once you are able to post in that area. Same goes for the brake master cylinder, fuse box covered in paint, and missing interior hardware. There's people with several parts cars who will sell you handfuls of hardware for pennies.

Good luck, read up, and get that post count up so you can start bringing the car back to life.

Thanks for the informational reply.

I do not need to pass emissions, can I remove the smog pump all together? Would that have any effect on my idle issue?

Update:

This may sound like a joke, but how do you turn on the brights? Let me explain. First I noticed the brights, horn, didn't work... Did my search and found that the Horn CPU was likely bad. Then while I was down by the clutch pedal I found out that 1 of 2 plugs TO the Horn CPU was unplugged. Horn works now and brights sort of work... When I pull back on the stalk for the brights they will alternate high/low/high/low at about blinker tempo. According to the sticker on the steering column that stalk also goes forward... but mine does not. I can pull it back but it springs forward when I let go, and it doesn't move forward. I thought I had read somewhere that the switch on the side of the cluster contained the brights switch but so far I can only turn on my running lights, headlights, and dim the interior lights with that switch.

Any help is appreciated.

Flick the switch back and it should activate the HI's through a relay.
If it doesn't hold the HI's then your relay maybe the culprit.
that Air pump is actually used to activate your 5/6 ports,so if you remove it you get a loss of power.

back, as in toward me? I had already bought a new Horn CPU before I found the plug disconnected. I am hoping that alone solves my issue.

Are you saying when the High beams are on the stalk is in the normal position? It only takes a momentary activation to turn them on/off?

Yes, IIRC the relays are under the hood, in front of the radiator

two questions and one answer... Got the new CPU in and now I can hold the highs on, but the stalk still doesn't click forward. I'm guessing PO broke it.. like everything.. sad face.

The stalk isn't made to go forward, only pull towards you
