Possibly Buying an FC3S--
Hi everyone,
I currently am looking at trading my 1992 Nissan 240sx for a 1988 FC3S RX-7 GXL. I am doing a lot of research and am continuing to read up on rotary engines as well as the RX-7 specifically. I have always been a Nissan guy but have a soft spot for the RX-7. The body is IMMACULATE with no rust, although i havent seen the interior or underbody. The guy says the only issues with it are that 1) an external switch needs to be added for the wipers to work and 2) the engine "needs a thermal valve replaced. The valve holds the A butterfly valve in the open for like a minute or two to help warm the car. Holding the gas for about 45 seconds when starting cold doesn't affect how it runs or anything." It has 147,xxx on the 13b and will need the oil changed in about 1.5k miles. Also needs an alignment and has an exhaust leak. The only thing im really worried about is the thermal valve assuming the underbody and interior is as spotless as the exterior. I was wondering about how much this would cost to have fixed or if it could be done without the help of a shop. Also how much out the door (roughly of course) would a single turbo 13b engine swap cost? Id rather have a shop handle an engine swap especially since im looking for a turbo seeing as i am really new to wrenching on my own car let alone a rotary engine.
Thank you for all of your help!

Having a shop do a complete TII swap into your car is definitely going to cost more than if you're able to complete the swap yourself. If I were able to shoot you an estimate, it would be VERY vague. It all depends whether or not you get the engine rebuilt, you may need better quality housings, irons, rotors; port work, have a custom VMIC set-up built, the turbo, whether you'll need a custom turbo manifold, etc... SO many different factors. Contact a reputable rotary shop for a more specific estimate.

I will be unable to do the swap myself I have about a 3-4k budget as of right now and wouldn't even consider it unless I know I have set aside enough money. It isn't final but I just wanted to see how hard it would be or how much it would cost to fix said valve. I would most likely just fix the valve and then focus on suspension, wheels, tint, etc. Any reliable websites for FC parts? I'm new to the whole Rotary scene.

$3K-$4K is a good start... But you are going to need quite a bit more if you're going to have a rotary shop/ specialist TII swap your car. Now, this much money on your N/A will do you pretty good. Fix all or any malfunctioning OEM parts. Do not just start replacing everything... Only what should or needs to be replaced. Your best bet is to read up! Next, focus on suspension, bushings, wheels, and tires.
