So today we pulled my radiator. I felt the radiator when the car was running, and the top was blistering hot, the middle warm and cool in different places, and the bottom mostly cold. I temped different parts with an IR thermometer. The part near the temperature sensor at the top was approaching 200 degrees F, and other parts were between 190 and 150. I figured that my radiator was blocked. Once it was removed, we noticed two disconnected hose connectors at the bottom of the radiator (see below).
There is an identical hose connector on the opposite side. Neither hose connector leaks, but there is also no apparent reason for them to be there. Which made me think, is this an Rx7 radiator, and is THAT the reason my car runs hot? (see below)
It isn't particularly clean (and looks filthy on the inside too, because it seems someone was using tap water with their coolant) but it does look to be the right size for the engine bay. Anyone?
So it won't be harmful then to continue using it? Will I experience any detriment to it's cooling ability? I've cleaned it out (lots and lots of calcium) and it is basically ready to reinstall.
