Question Overheating! Help!

Ok.. Ive been to this local shop.. dude tells me to put a new thermastat and Bigger Fan because I was using a Small Honda Fan.. I know! I know! Shame on me.. so I replaced it with a Haynes 16" Electrical Fan... and car still overheats... When Im on the highway it doesnt overheat... It overheats on Hot Days, and in the City from liqht to liqht... Also overheats when I have the A/C on.... and Sometimes.. I will go somewhere and when I park and get out the car for 5 minutes.. theres a puddle of coolant... I popped the hood and theres no link in the Radiator, or the hoses.... Please any suggestions will be great... Thank you for reading and I hope I can get throuqh this... Your RX7 Bud -Topless_FC3S......

I think you have a coolant leak, so you get air in you cooling system that make your engine to overheat.

With the car running check on your overflow thank to see if you get bubbles in the coolant and allso check if coolant spill from that tank. If so you may have a bad coolant seal on your engine and may need to rebuilt!

Good Luck!

Ok guys... I did everythinq... I checked to see if there were bubbles in the overflow and theres none... Let me break the overheating down for you... @ Idle(Car Doesnt Overheat) - On the Hiqhway(Car doesnt overheat) - On a Hot Day drivinq in the City liqht to liqht(Car will sliqhtly overheat) - On a Hot Day with the AC on(Car Overheats) - When I drive to a destination and park for 5 minutes with the car off.. I'll come back out to see a Puddle of Coolant under the car, but when I refill it and I crank the car to find leaks.. there are none.... One Guy said to get a bigger Fan..which Im using a 16" Electrical Fan 1500CFM - New Thermostat.... Whats left? Radiator? Water Pump Maybe? Please Help me out.. Only Person to say anythinq has been Erix... Which I thank you for that test... Anyone Else or whatever.. Just need your Help Guys... RX7Club FTW....(Topless_FC3S)

turn it on on a hot day and let it idle with the a/c cranked and watch for where the coolant is coming out of. maybe have someone sitting in the car to make sure it doesnt get too too hot

I have had other vehicles act this way, overheat with no apparent cause, due to trash/corrosion in the radiator itself. I have also seen rotarys use water and blow no bubbles in the overflow, the only way to tell is to see if the exhaust has a sweet smell. Though this can be hard to tell since rotary exhaust can knock out low flying birds.

what i'd do besides the afor mentioned above is to take a look at the front end. these care are designed for airflow...jus hard to cool the engine. so look to see if your airdam is throwing air to the radiator for the first part of my advice. if nothing is blocking it and its not in the way then my second guess would be too look at the water pump after you see the leak...some water pumps come w/ a bleeder. see if its leaking some out. that's really all i can say from this stand point.

Exclamation

Do you have a stock radiator with the plastic top cap across the entire width? Prob a clog/trash caught in there. BE careful with this, I was lucky enough to be in my car when that plastic top exploded! Get a full metal replacement for that junk made with plastic. I went with a koyo and samco hoses no prob's since.

Not 100% on why mine blew up but was havin overheating issue with in city/ light to light driving. but could sit in driveway for 30mins no prob.
My guess would be the rad is prob and when you get coolant on the ground its coming out the overflow tank.
Just if you are trying to still figure this out, I would not stand in front of the radiator area when the car is all warmed up when you normally have this issue, unless you like the feeling of your skin melting off your face

do not bypass the thermostat....it is there for a reason - to keep the engine at a constant temperature
and yeah about 1/5-1/3 the way up the gauge is where it should be. mines usually at 1/4

i would check the weep hole on the water pump if its leaking then ur seal is blown on the water pump. also just try flushing everything out, start fresh you know? its all a process of elimination. make sure that grease hasnt built up on ur radiator also.

The car is overheating when the fan is required to draw air through the radiator to keep it cool. So either the fan is not coming on, or it is too small.

I doubt a 16" fan covers the entire radiator as the rad is much larger then 16". Maybe the shroud covers the whole radiator...

not having a shroud is most likely the culprit...a fan just sitting there in the open is MUCH less efficient than a shrouded one

think of how much harder you can blow on something with your lips tightly sealed than you can with your mouth wide open. you want to direct the air flow to where you need it, and not have it wafting all over the place. having a shroud gives the air only one direction to travel in.

did you check the fan to make sure it's pulling or pushing air in the right direction? Some e fans are reversible by swithcing the blades around or reversing polarity........

just recheck the directions the fan came with........

it's the polarity. turning the blade around does nothing.

^^^^^^^depends on what brand e fan you buy. some e-fans are made with reversible blades........

....thats not even possible lol. the only way to reverse it is to actually bend the blades in the other direction

Ok I'm not going to argue whether the blades are reversible or not.......google it or something. I'm just trying to help this guy out......But if you want some reading material.....here you go from Mr Gasket e fans description.....

Just want the guy who installed his efan to check directions the fan
came with......

the fan can be a pusher and not reversible depending on the blade............

"These fans are the best on the market! HERE'S WHY: High torque, low amperage draw motor. The motor rides on Dual Ball Bearings, not on bushings like some others.

Reversible Fan Blades

engineered to provide maximum airflow. Our fans provide more efficient cooling at low speeds where it is needed most. They also free up more usable horsepower to the rear wheels, and increase fuel economy. Their extremely low profile design makes installation easy even in very limited space. With five sizes to choose from, all being

reversible,

it makes it easy to find your customers the correct fan for their specific application."
