oil in spark plugs
Hello! I am new here
and will openly admit that i know very little about cars, especially rotatory motor ones. Please bare with me. I hope someone can offer my husband and I advice (he also is not experienced with the rotary motor). We have a 1984 RX7 that i absolutely love. We purchased it after it had sat for years and then it continued to sit in our yard for a few more. It is now running, registered, and has a new paint job
Unfortuntely it is not running up to par and bucks at times, as if it is struggling to get all its power. On straight aways once it hits about 45 miles ph it also draws back on its power sometimes and the speed slowly drops. We just replaced the spark plugs and found that the lower two have oil in them. For a regular car in this situation apparently just the head gaskets would need to be replaced. But i have learned that this car has no head gasket so don't know what to do. My husband says it got worse once he put the new spark plugs in.
I have read that a rotary motor car shouldn't be taken to a regular mechanic so i was hoping that we could figure out the problem here and my husband, sons, and I can fix it on our own. Any ideas or suggestions? Hopefully not too difficult or expensive. Thanks!

I think you are chasing several problems.
First, what model of '84? You could have a carbureted 12A, or a fuel injected 13B. Answers will be totally different based on the car. But there is one thing you can check easily for both: fuel system. Has the entire fuel system been flushed, cleaned and rebuilt? After sitting, this is a requirement. All the fuel filters will need to be replaced.
The oil on the plugs may or may not be a concern. If the car doesn't smoke, then it's not burning much oil so presumably once the other issue is solved, the plugs will clear up.

Hi Aaron. Thanks for the response. No one is home with me right now so i can't fully answer your questions. I believe we have the 12A carbureted model. It is the 1.1 and not the 1.3 (if that helps any). I would assume that any filters that were previously on the vehicle would have been changed by my husband, but i can't say for sure. The car does not smoke. Besides replacing fuel lines (which i am not sure was done) and fuel filters what else would be part of rebuilding the fuel system? Thanks!

That would be the 12A. It's probably safe to say the carburetor needs to be rebuilt. If I had to guess I'd say the secondaries are frozen shut or not opening properly.
