FL Oil pressure gauge

hello, i'm having a problem with my oil pressure gauge. the needle goes down to zero when i accelerate and pretty much stays there as i drive along. i don't think it's really at zero pressure as the motor runs strong and sounds ok, no ticking or heating up. does that sound like something that happens when the gauge goes bad? i appreciate any help out there. by the way its an 86 fc and it sat for about two years but has new oil and filter. thanks

unscrew oil pressure sender, clean oil pressure sender, re-install oil pressure sender.

If its still bad, go buy a new one.

Disconnect the plug to the sender and ground the wire in the plug and do this w/the key to on and the gauge needle will rise to the top if the gauge if it is working properly. Only ground the sender wire long enough to do this test and no longer.
