PA Oil Pressure

What should my oil pressure read at idle? Mine is really low and kinda scares me, I am an old motor head that is used to 40 pounds at idle so maybe I am just panicking a little too much.

The stock gauge is unreliable, so it may not be showing the correct reading.

30-40 PSI is normal.

mine is just below the first mark at idle and just below the 2nd mark at cruising speed. it goes about half way up when you rev it up

hi, sorry my inglish is not good enough, i have a problem with the oil pressure, when i turn on the engine the pressure increases upto 120 psi, after 10 min pressure decreases upto 60 psi. then, reaches 0 psi when 2500 rpm, and if i reach 4500 rpm the pressure goes upto 60 psi. the springs are new . do you have an answer to this problem. please let me know, my car is a 99 spec. (pd: my catalyst is original not my silencer and is not good. plese recomend me something good and not expensive, in my country there is no problem having cars making noice.

check if the sensor or gauge is faulty before anything.

This oil pressure variation is common, particularly with 20W50 oil and cooler weather. Can't help with the exhaust.

I've had the oil pressure sensor replaced twice in my FD. It seems like it lasts for a few years and then gets intermittently flaky. It would sometimes drop to zero for a while and then start working again.

When it first happened, it was making me really nervous. I took it to a Mazda dealer near Lansdale PA. They couldn't figure it out and told me to just not worry about it. I just took it to a local shop that replaced the sensor and that fixed it (until the sensor wore out again a few years later). It also took me a few times of trying to use the Mazda dealer in Lansdale before I realized that they were not up to the task of working on an RX-7.
