Lightbulb Oil mixing & Oil measurement?

Hello there!

I already used the search function but i couldnt really get the answer i was looking for.
I'm a fresh owner of a '96 Type RS, total rotary newbie!

Simple Question: The previous Owner of the car was using Idemitsu 20W50 synthetic, its fresh in the Car since 2 Weeks now. Problem is, it currently takes 2-3 Weeks to get this Oil ordered here and the previous Owner had no leftovers whatsoever.
Now in my well sorted, trustworthy Hardware Store they sell LiquiMoly 20W50 synthetic Engine Oil with exotic high end Specs for Turbo Cars.

Do you guys recon i can mix those two Oils? LiquiMoly states its mixable with all synthetic and mineralic Oils, but will it be an issue with Idemitsu and especially a Rotary?

And how do i measure the Oil Level correctly? Some say when the Engine is cold, some say when its warm, some say when its hot. Suggestions?
What will happen if i overfill the FD?

Thanks guys, i hope you can help me out here

EXACTLY what is the answer your looking for? There is IMO no absolute need to use Indemitsu. It’s quality oil, but so are many other brands. The FD engine has very few oil related failures and I’m not aware of a longitudinal study that shows any benefit to using Indemitsu, or any other oil marketed to be rotary specific. As for “mixing”...yes you can use another oil if you insist on paying the premium plus shipping for Indemitsu and have to wait for it.
IMO it’s just as important is to use a quality filter and keep change intervals a little closer than what you might be used to in a piston engine.

Mix? Do you mean change to this liquimoly temporarily? No, it won’t explode.

I actually just want to top off the Idemitsu with the LiquiMoly if needed, which brings me back to my other question: do I measure the oil like in a regular car with a cold engine, or do i measure it with the engine hot? And should I always fill it up to max then? and will anything bad happen when there's too much oil in it?

It’s fine. You can mix. And the marginal difference between cold and hot is insignificant. Fill to ‘full’ and relax. It’s not that fragile.

You do not need fancy oil to run in the engine...unless you have the desire to burn money.
..and if you use a Synthetic and a conventional oil all you are doing is turning into Semi Synthetic.
In Canada I use a 10w30 in the Fc's that I have driven. It is classed as an Extreme application..meaning very large temp changes..cold (snow) to hot (summer)
Castrol GTX or Hi Mileage GTX is a common oil that is used by hundreds on this Site..

I like spending money on Gas so I can drive the car,not oil that you pay an arm and a leg for, when a cheaper substitute can be used without Issue.

^^^ What Styx said

I would like to add, just because Mazda has a long history of using Idemitsu doesn't mean you necessarily need it. If you are determined to go synthetic, you can always save some money by buying Royal Purple at your local auto shop and avoiding the shipping costs.

I use plain Castrol GTX, but I like 20W50 summer and 10W30 winter. As Styx said, 10W30 all year round should be fine too.

Thanks alot for the answers guys.
I got now 5 Liters of Castrol GTX 10W40 for Winter and i started softly premixing today, adding 200ml to my tank, topping it off with some 20 liters 98 octane to get a full tank of ~1:300 premix.
I don't know if I'm imaginating things but i could swear it runs a lot smoother now with this little premix I did. actually it was a lot more than i wanted but that 2 stroke stuff has so low viscosity that it made GULP and in it was.. hehe.

But the Car doesnt smoke or smell like Chainsaw at all lol, I kinda wanted this though.
