MA Offer on a car - need advice? apologies for wrong section

Put in an offer on a 93 rx-7, odometer is unknown but seller is willing to let me bring it to a mechanic. Everything is working and car drives nice.
Is is worth buying a car with no odometer reading? If this a huge problem. What are your thoughts ? Car is 21k .
Car has also had the car repainted but it looks perfect as far as the paint/interior are concerned

You should still ask for a vehicle history report. Original engine or rebuild or new engine? Should still get a compression test done on the engine.

Simliar to a carfax? He is getting me the VIN. It was rebuilt 12k miles ago but that was word of mouth from prev buyer. I am trying to locate a rotary shop in sacramento CA or was going to try a mazda dealer?
Thank you. If the compression test checks out and no accident, do you think its worth picking up.

Yes, definitely get a carfax. Is there paperwork for the rebuilt engine? Go to a Mazda dealer, rotary shops in northern california are pretty rare now and days. I would still recommend a prepurchase inspection done either at the dealership or a trusted shop as well as an alignment check. Any mods on the car? Any pictures of it?

You’re willing to pay/risk $21,000 on a car with a platform you’re unfamiliar with, you have no documented history on and with unknown mileage? I don’t care what the mechanic says, you’re braver than I am.

I have reconsidered this path since the more I dig in the less answers I am getting. The undocumented items are having me reconsider this. You are on point sgtblue. I am willing to start somewhere but not in the land of unknown. Transparency on finding a car is getting really tough now and making me reconsider this path. My goal was to find a clean car somewhat stock if possible and learn to modify the car myself.
