No Start... CAS??
Okay so i was working on my 88 SE today and after an oil change the neighbor (who claims to have been a mechanic and an ex rx7 owner) came over and offered to do the timing... like a fool i let him do his thing only to have my high idle problem (2500rpms) turn into a no start situation after he pulled the CAS out far enough to move it on the splines a few spots in a clockwise direction. After messing with it myself i noticed white smoke/ash coming out of the CAS when its pulled out far enough. I'm about at my wits end and i hope someone a bit more experienced can help me out on this one. Thanks all.

Don't let you neighbor touch anything. Restab the CAS to get the timing back to normal. There's no reason to play with the CAS if it was set right in the first place.

As it was explained to me it looks like a upside icecream cone right at the base of the cas housing just line it up with the dot on the gear hold shaft firmly and insert the cas in the hole .. you might need to wiggle a bit make sur you have the pointer on the front cover lined up with the yellow dot (the first one as it comes around clockwise ) and you got it ...

Are we talking the housing on the CAS itself or on the housing attached to the block? I still cant find anything that looks like that. If anyone has pics that would be amazing. Sorry im still a rookie.

ok i got the CAS lined up properly the yellow mark was still about 10mm away from the pointer. as the car warmed up it settled at about 5mm to the left of the pointer but when the engine got to operating temp it started bogging and died. I was left listening to a gurgling sound from my radiator... halp!!

How did you time the engine ? you need a timing light to set it proper using the marks on the cas just gets it close enought to run then you put the timing light on after the engine is warm and set it to where it needs to be by turning the cas .. when the pointer lines up snug the nut down to hold it there .. The advance is controled by the control unit from there . Is your rad topped up with coolant ?? There could be just a few bubbles in it .. As far as the fuel system goes someone else like rotary rocket will have to help you there...

Put the main pulley on the Yellow mark.
Take the CAS and align it's Marks.Then Making sure that you don't let the "guts' of the CAS move,Restab the CAS.Once you have the CAS IN then put the locking bolt in.
That should bring your car back into time.
If need be you can move the Outer casing on the CAS and bring it to a Set time.

@Gerald m, I used a vehicle battery powered timing light for the timing ill buy more 50/50 tomorrow and see what happens. As for the car dying when the choke disengages ill have to do some research unless anyone has a theory

She lives!!! I got some prestone and a radiator cap and she idles right at 800. Thanks for the info it was all I needed to get my first rotary running.
