NC No spark and no tach "flutter" when cranking

Hey guys, I put a new core in my 87 rx last year and then moved to NC a month ago to help my brother and start new. It rained here for 6 days and dropped 9 inches of rain. Most of the roads were flooded. I woke up to my brother telling me he drowned my car. There was a foot of water in my car....thanks bro. Anyways.....I got no spark and while I crank it the tach does not flurrer at all like It use too so of coures it just floods with gas. Any ideas out there? Spnt alot of money on her engine wise. I really hope it was all for nothing.
thanks, Chris

replace the engine fuses and chech wiring also change ALL fluids gas, oil, ect ect make sure there is NO water in the engine. water in the engine can cause serious damage if your getting no spark why keep cranking it? it will never start without spark. if replacing the fuses and checking wiring dosent fix the no spark issue check the coils with a meter if they are bad replace them. engine+water=bad

well since it got really wet in there could have shorted something out. but now when you hit the gas it does nothing? that could be a bad tps. and how well does the car idle?

she idled really rough. I took the maf out and took it apart. There was like a teaspoon of water in the curcuit board area of the maf. I poured it out and put the whole unit in the oven at 150 to dry it out. put it back in and now she idles ok and revs to 2000 rpm.... then cuts out. I went to napa and ordered a new one. 250.00 geez. price and hours gets worses n worses. Hope this will take care of the issue. I think the tps is going out tho. before all this when I would start her she would rev up n down a couple of times and then even out to a good idle. that is too high up to have gotten wet tho. that is next to try I guess. Any input would be great guys. I miss running her.

its probly the tps. mine went bad and some times it would rev past 2500 rpm and some times if you slowly pressed on the gas it would go to 3800 then cut out so i would try a new tps first before you spend the 250$

well...I had already ordered the maf and paid for it. I got it and installed. ran great....ran to get gas and then to lowes. Then as I yurned into my road it started to sputter and do the same. I just got done ordering and paying for a tps. $209.00. geez....I know it is going out but only had a problem with it during start up before. Because the maf was wet i leaned more to that. I dont get why it ran fine today and then crapped out tho. grrrrrrrrr. Thanks for you input Ken, I do appreciate it

have you checked the passenger side carpet?..Under it is the ECU for the engine,.
You said that the car Got REAL wet right?,,enough to soak the Floor???
then that would also Drench the ECU with water,,and if that is wet, then the car won't run right.
Also Suggestion. If I may,I suggest looking at the SEC GEN Parts for Sale section, rather han Going out and Buying NEW stuff for the car,,
Unless you want to Sink a Damn BOAT load of money into the car,or Or Trying to get the car to LOOK like NEW(immaculate 9.5 out of ten..or better),then Buy Used.
New parts and Dealer Parts are REAL hard on the pocket book, and you will find out quickly that the car is gonna Take you and your bank account for a Nice ride,,(so BUY USED!).
good luck.STYX.

Hey styx, The ecu in my car is about 3 feet up under the passanger side dash. There was only a foot of water in the car so it didnt reach that. Thanks for the suggestion about buying parts. I'll check that out before I buy new again.

So.....I got it running. Then I had to drive to Pa from Nc to get my cat from my ex. She was threatening to take her to the spca.. sure death sentence. It is a 366 mile trip. packed my 150 piece craftsman socket sey and screw drivers just in case. I got 310 miles and.......my trans died. It's and automatic. Come to find out my little brother....FORGOT....to put it in nuetral before they pulled it home after he drove it into the flooded road. $400 to flatbed it the rest of the way....used trans $99...shiping $150.....instalation $?....I don't have anywhere to do it myself. I stuck in Pa for Christmas where i do NOT wanna be too. I really think I'm going to kill my little brother. so......I found the trans on e-bay from a shop named APEX AUTO PARTS....very nice people and the have alot of parts for sale. If you all need anything you should check them out. they have over 5000 sells on e-bay and still have %100 feedback. Prices are awesome aswell.
