Nice clunking noise from the rear

Hey there. I'm new to this site been registered for a bit but haven't asked much yet. Anywho, I own a 87 rx7 N/a, there's a rather loud clunking noise coming from the rear when I shift up or down. I figured i was either the rear control arm bushings or the pinion bearing. Might anyone know if this is correct?

Thanks

Will it clunk if you get on/off the throttle abruptly too? It could be a broken front diff mount: https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/pinion-snubber-diff-mount-replacement-convertible-876959/

I had a clunking noise coming from the rear of my GXL. It would randomly come and go so I never really looked into it. I also had very little knowledge of cars at the time but I was told it could be the differential mount or a transmission mount but the transmission is basically right where the shifter/center console is so I would go with the differential mount but it doesnt hurt to check the transmisions mounts.

I had loud clunking noises coming and going, joined by a nice vibration throughout the car.

Turned out the pillowball joint between the rear lower control arm and wheel hub had loads of play.
Set of new bushes and pillowballs by AtomicRex cured it!
