new rx owner...i need help

ok so i got an 86 rx7 n/a 5 speed a few weeks ago, and have been working on getting it back on the road (bought it non running). well i got it running and driving, but i am having a few problems; mainly: gauge lights dont illuminate, and the idle drops when it gets warmed up and it will then stall out. there are some wires that i noticed are disconnected, and im trying to figure out where they go; maybe they are causing some of my problems. in any case, i want to figure them out to hook them back up. so if anyone can help me out, that would be great. here are some pics to illustrate.

as you can see, its the black connector next to the thermostat housing

this wire harness/group of wires was dangling underneath the car(i just pulled them up through the engine bay). from my understanding, the black and green wires hook up to the fifth gear switch on the transmission, and the wires on the end(not pictured) are for the reverse lights. but i dont know where these two connectors go. it looks like the wires were pulled out of the back of them.

Loose wires are usually a result of a swap or repair where engine may have been pulled. In many cases people just want the car to RUN and disregard any wires that don't affect the engine mechanically. At least that's the case with 240s. I could be wrong here though.

i dont think its a motor swap. it looks like the ends of the first wires were melted and then pulled apart. the transmission may have been swapped, because thats where the second wires were going to, and that whole group of wires is disconnected (5th gear switch, reverse lights, and whatever those other two connectors are for). i really just need someone with an FC to look at those particular wires and see where they go for me..
