new owner of a 3rd gen (maybe) car stuck in drive. help! :)
hey guys brand new here and im about to buy my dream car, a super clean 3rd gen.
here's the problem. the guy im buying it from was driving it, pulled into a gas station and attempted to put the car into park and it would not go. (its an auto) the gear selector physicaly wont move past N. today aparently he got under the car and removed the shift linkage and tried to move it manualy from under the car and still no dice. it still moves from 1-2-3-D-N but no further. so no R or P.
i'm assuming this might have something to do with the brake pedal and some sort of saftey actuator.
Is it possible that the shift select actuator is part of the body of the transmission and not the shif lever thereby locking it up internaly?
my next question is this,
he was still able to drive the car 130 miles home so long as he didnt have to revers and the transmission operated perfectly, would it be safe to drive this car as it is from phoenix to albuqurque new mexico? (about a 6 hour drive)
thanks again sorry so winded but i wanted to give as much info as i had.

I don't have any experience with the auto transmissions but I'd probably guess at a trans problem.
Beyond the transmission issue, whether it is safe to drive is impossible for us to determine since nobody reading this knows the details of the car.
There is a Buyer's Guide in the 3rd gen FAQ. You may want to read it:
