This is the part where you start your familiarity with the sections of the Forum and look at the Regional section that pertain to your area.
They usually talk about shops and guys that do work on the cars and will post their experiences.

If you can get CODES for that Check engine light then you may even be able to diagnose the symptom yourself and save some money.
HERE try this:
RX7 FD and Series 5 Error Codes

BTW misterstyx69 has point about saving money. If you are mechanically inclined even the slightest, it may be worth your time to try and tackle some of this issues yourself. Reason being is this car will $500 dollar beat you to death... Additionally don't be surprised if its the egr engine code as is by far the most common code with this car. The valve (mechanically) rarely is failing but its the circuitry that goes out on it. Unfortunately the fix is to replace it entirely. But hey at least it's an easy fix.

I doubt you'd pass CA smog without it. Looks like ~ $270 with the gasket from these guys. ----> EGR, BPAV, Air Control Valves, & Emission Solenoids You can maybe double that cost if you take it to a shop to have it done.
If you change it yourself try a search in the 3rd Gen. Section for Malloy Mazda. Trusted source for OEM parts with fair prices even with shipping. May be able to save over MAZDATRIX. Ask for Ray in Parts, he's an FD owner.
While you're in the 3rd Gen. section start reading through the Sticky FAQs and download a copy of the Factory Service Manual. Montego is right on...this car was finicky when it was new, now it's 20 years old. If you can't do maintenance or some repairs yourself, you'd better be wealthy.

BTW Montego...you get the avatar. I still chuckle everytime I see it.

Sgtblue is 100% correct. You may pass the sniffer but you will certainly not pass visual smog with an engine light on. Yes become very familiar with Ray at Malloy Mazda as no one can match his prices for OEM equipment.

BTW I'm partial to Rotary Lab in Ontario. Steve knows his FD's and prices are good

For Sgtblue:
