New Carter fuel pump blowing fuses 12a/rx2

Hey,

I just installed a new Carter P4070 fuel pump, and am now blowing the (fuel pump) fuse regularly. It's an rx2 coupe with a 83/84 12a. I used the original positive/negative wiring that was on the previous standard fuel pump.

I also notice quite a drop in 'Carter hum' when I turn the electric fan on and especially with the lights on, on top of that, not sure if this could be related.

Electric isn't my strong suit, so any help super appreciated. Thanks!

You may want to install a relay to power the new fuel pump. The new pump may be drawing too many amps from OEM fuel pump electrical circuit.

Thanks FDlegend, appreciated.

so would that be running a new wire (does that go straight from the battery, and what gauge wire?) to the relay, and essentially the relay would be used to trigger the on/off aspect?

Here's a diagram on how you can wire up a relay. 16ga wire should be fine. Your stock positive wire powering your fuel pump will be connected to 86 to switch the relay ON.
