NC my my first 2nd gen...engine&trans swap.stock.

i've posted these pics on my intro thread, but time to start a new one. i plan to bring this 87 n/a back to life. got a motor and trans today to replace the original with. the one coming out has lost compression and i guess the trans might be ok,but feels loose and knuckle-y-ish. idk how to explain, but the new one's real tight feelin compared to that one. want to rebuild the old one, but kits are expensive! this car is a beauty to me and i can't wait to get to work on it. gonna take lots of pics...mainly so i can remember how to put it back together. haha! hope this goes well. stay tuned. pun totally intended!

so for an update...i took out the old motor in a day. put in the new one in another day. trouble shooted the fuel problem after replacing the fuel pump today and have come to the conclusion that injectors have to be my last problem to fix before she'll run. had it running shooting some gas straight in the carb, just long enough to know it will. runs strong! can't wait. gotta fix those damn injectors and it's on!!! wasn't an easy swap by myself, but a fairly simple project when i look back. nothing i couldn't remember how to hook up. only got 2 little nicks on the back of my hand...which is good for a non-mechanic knuckle buster. almost always tear my hands up, if i just change my brakes, haha! anyway, this is almost a done deal. got lots of pics, but there's not much to show. would probably rather take the trans off and put them in one at the time next time. it's gotta be easier than sliding in 1 piece,at least by yourself. that trans is a pain, just for the weight while you're trying to get a bolt started and no one to give you one more hand. i got it tho...i was determined. soon,,,soon!

This is great news! I always enjoy the task of pulling and reinstalling the engine in these cars.

The car looks to be in pretty good shape. I like how clean the interior is, too. Any other plans for the it?

it's in great shape. not really planning much. don't want to mess it up trying to add turbos, and aftermarket this and that...it'll run great stock. i'll be happy driving it just like it is. k'&n air filter...maybe some seat covers to help preserve em. only just starting to see the thread thin out in the seats. i have yet to drive it, but they're not gonna last long once i do. interior's nice other than that. i want a nice stereo, but i hate to mess with the factory setup. it just looks so classic. my first gen needs the upgrade stuff for power if i do any. i have an integra with the good stereo and some new parts on it. building that slowly too. cf hood, exhaust system, rims, just a few things over the 4 or 5 years i've owned it. 94 LS non-v. runs great too. the 2nd gen here is gonna definitely be more my favorite tho! the acura is the daily driver. haha! this rx7 is gonna be my classic, and my first gen has always been my playtoy! that little thing is a beast. if you can find my intro thread, got pics. 13B w Webber intake, street ported possibly. haven't taken it apart to check, but it's fun to drift around on. wish i could afford the tires to get good at that mess. it's tricky trying to feel out a curve with that light thing sliding out from under you with all that damn torque! it's soooo fun tho! this 87 n/a i really think i should just leave alone. especially since i got a 1st gen to play with. don't you agree? it's a pretty *** car...might just need some body work on 3 tiny un-noticable dings, and a touch up paint job for the tops of the front fenders and the front bumper. that's it!

i like these old stock rims. they look alright, plus the tires look like new. funny tho, just bought 17s for my integra, haven't even installed em yet. this is gonna be a gem stock i think. even without the spoiler and body kit stuff, i love how it looks. and i always prefer the spoiler. without tho...kinda makes me think of a supra type body. in any case...i dig it. like i said, this'll be the stock gem. meanwhile i'll upgrade parts on the teggy and play with performance parts on my 1st gen for speed. thanks for the interest. pictures of my swap coming soon.

it's alive!!!! runs great... the motor i picked up runs like a sewing machine! haven't tested the trans on the road yet. waiting for the clutch master cyl. should be here in a couple of days. hope i won't need to replace the brake system too. this car had to be sitting a while for all the things that rusted on it. plus it was up north a bit, that damn salt sucks! i left the camera in the shop. i'll bring you some pics soon. quick question tho...what would make the shifter so hard to move? should i take out that white ring or just let the 3 bolt shield be loose. when i tighten it down i can't shift. i'm sure that white ring is turned the right way. any suggestions? plus, there's a little white boot around the ball at the bottom. it pivots fine and i can shift with the 3 bolts loosened up some on top. but is it ok to just get rid of that white ring? ........i'll give a rundown of what i went through with this thing when i put up pics. thanks for reading!

NC the grand finale!!!

So here it is!!! all finished and on the road driving. didn't take me long did it? haha. don't know the best way to do this. quick run through i guess...i took out the fan shroud and radiator, took off the fan, started pulling everything that was holding it in at the most convenient looking place, took the time to see how it all connected, cause knowing helps you put it back together later...started on one side and worked my way around to each hose or plug i could get to and began disassemble. i noticed how rusty everything was for only sitting 8 or 9 months (what i was told), but not so major. the squirrel nest and nut shells everywhere were more of a bother to me. they stuffed the muffler so i had a hard time fixing that. so anyway, i got out the trans mounts and the two motor mounts and ...i think i had the hoist on the engine b4 i dropped the motor mounts. it probably would've stayed, but i wasn't taking any chances out there by myself. then i slowly and carefully dropped the ramp as i worked out the motor and trans, little, by little, by little.... would've been alot faster with 1 other person but no prob. i think i'll stop here for some pics...

NC the grand finale!!! pt.2

i had to save the wiring harness so off with the intake and that metal line configuration. fed the lines of the harness back out from under all that vacuum setup and whatever else was in the way. then it was out with the engine. and here's the one that went back in it. got it for a steal @ $400. the trans is tight like a new one, the engine runs great. stuck it in and hooked everything back up. which, let me say, was a JOB by myself. i'm sure there's got to be better ways than anything i tried, but getting it done without tearing up something is a great feeling. i had to be careful not the hit the rad, or get caught on the harnesses and hoses everywhere. (notice how much cleaner that engine was). i'm not sure what to do with the old one yet. the trans is going in my 13B 1st gen. rebuild kits are expensive. you could almost buy one ready... only a little more than the kit. i had to swap the power steering and buy a new slave and master clutch cylinder. i also had to take out the injectors and i blew through them with an air compressor, put the four best ones back out of the 8 from both motors. i changed the oil, the oil filter, the fuel filter, drained the tank and put new gas, new coolant, and an air filter. the usual stuff. i do have to go through and fix whatever rotors are bent and brake calipers are stuck and brake shoes. but that's it!!! a very happy owner of a new to me 2nd gen! thanks for reading!
