Unhappy Is My FB Coming To an End?

Hey guys, lately whenever I get above 4500 rpms in 3rd gear, 4000 in 4th and 3000 in 5th my engine stops giving me power. I drive an 1983 FB GSL. Is this a common issue? How can I fix it?
I talked to the guy that had sold me the car and he said that this was from either condensation building up inside the fuel tank or just my fuel filter needs to be replaced. It seems like it would be transmission related so I was considering replacing the fluid but I just don't know where to start.

Could be a problem with the output side of the transmission or the rear end, however if this was the case I would imagine you would be getting some godawful noise when the car bogs down. My gut tells me its a fuel issue, but I think you'd want to start here to diagnose it:

Change your fuel filter, this is a very common problem. The stock filter barely flows enough fuel when brand new. Even a slightly dirty filter will start choking your engine.

They cost about $4.00 and you can make the swap in under 20 minutes...

I dont know too much about the 12a but it might be a stuck float in the carb.

Change the fuel filter first and then replace the fuel pump if the problem persists. You're running out of fuel on the top end is how a drag racer would describe it.

Thanks for the update, Ben! A happy ending to these "mystery-doesn't-want-to-run" threads is always good to read, especially if it's on the cheap!
