Megasquirt 2 ignition questionss....

Does anyone have current settings for a 13b running stock CAS and FC coils for Tuner studio???

I'm having problems with my ignition, too many to pin point what's wrong. I want to make sure that I have the right setting first.

I have installed the Zeal engineering board. But after all the problems I've disabled the the upper trigger on the CAS to not use the Zeal board (which is only currently for the trailing coil). Then I tried to grind the teeth of the main 24 tooth wheel to make a 12-1 (12 teeth and 1 missing) to hopefully simplify the timing issues. I tried to set the megasquirt to read the CAS in this configuration, but it's not working out???

I'm just confusing myself...Please any help in the right direction will be appreciated...

I've seen Aarons post but it doesnt match the Tuner studio settings which just further confuses me....

OK,

So I made some rookie mistakes so far. I was using the software version 2.95 on the Megasquirt and not the latest (June 29-2012) Msextra 3.2.1 software. Now I have the settings that look correct on other peoples recommended setting, such as "enable rotary mode". Plus I under stand now that "MS extra" allows for the split timing that is required for the use of the trailing timing...

My problem now is that I have ground out my CAS. But I might be able to still use it...? I think it will work, if not I can get a nother CAS. I am going to check and make sure all my wiring is correct and have another go at the timing...Wish me luck...

I'm not sure what you mean by "ground out" the CAS. Can you clarify?

Shorting the CAS to ground won't damage it. Once the condition is cleared it will work again....

But I'm a bit confused. Are you running the CAS only on one wheel?

All Megasquirt Extra firmware has supported trailing for a LONG time. It's been at least 6 years since the MS2 gained trailing support.

Hello Aaron,

What I meant by "ground out" is I grinded a tooth on opposite ends of the NE portion of the CAS wheel. I was attempting to make it a missing tooth wheel.

My problem was I did not understand what I was doing wrong with my ingnition setup. It turns out I was using the wrong firmware (v2.95) on the megasquirt2 and tunerstudio. This version doens't support the trailing signal (that I know of) and now I have the most current version of MS extra that does support the second VR signal (G), but now I messed up my CAS. I'm wondering if I can still use it as a missing toothed wheel??? and still use the second vr signal. Every thing I've read so far says yes, but ??? I confused my self by reading so many different things about the install. The good thing is now I think I know alot more about Megasuirt2 and it's capabilities....

So if anyone can help...I have the Zeal board installed using the second VR conditioner for the "G" signal (the part of the CAS that only has two teeth 180 degrees from each other). I'm using the built on VR conditioner on the V3 mainboard (megasquirt2). I have not adjusted the Pot's past the point of the initial "click" that was part of the assembly.

My #1 problem seems to be at cranking. I'm not getting good consistent spark. Not sure if my cranking speed is to slow, voltage drop is to high, VR pots are not adjusted right, or if my missing tooth settings are not working for me...or all the above???

And thank you again Aaron for all your work and time...

I'd try posting in the Megasquirt section of the forum.

congratulations!

I have two minds about this. on one hand, i'm always glad to see others make progress with their projects. on the other hand, I must admit that i'm sort of relieved that this thing has kicked your *** for such a long time. my Megasquirt 2 project has taken a LOOOONG time and i'm still not quite there yet, but you give me some hope of a positive outcome.

hurry up and get rid of that carbie.
