low fuel pressure

Let me start out by saying that this is the first rx7 I have owned. I recently bought the rx7 off my cousin and had to have it shipped from California to Florida. It arrived his past saturday and once it was off the truck I had a hard time getting it to idle and get into first gear. Once moving it ran great. Once I got it to my house I gave it a quick wash and then decided to take it for a drive but could not get it started. Thats when i discovered that my fpr was only reading about 20psi. The car has a supra tt fuel pump so i figured maybe it was on its way out. So i through the stock pump back in but I'm still only getting about 20psi fuel pressure. Is my fpr bad or is there another reason I could be getting bad fuel pressure? Car will start and idle but when you try to give it a little gas it wants to stall.
Sorry for the long post just thought i would be a descriptive as I could to help explain the problem.

Descriptive would be telling us which Series of car it is and if there are any mods to it.

How long was the car sitting and did you change the filters in the tank and on the car?.Did you use the old gas to try to start it?

also, a simpler starting point may be the filter. even if it turns out not to be your issue, you've got a new filter.

its a 3rd gen 1993 rx7, with a street port and running a single turbo. The car does have old gas but tank is clean, no sludge or anything at the bottom. Sock on the bottom of the fuel tank was also clean. Even if the gas is old wouldn't the pressure still be good? Where is the filter located?

I don't think this car has a filter on it besides the one in the tank from what i can see. Isn't normal pressure at idle around 45psi? Right now both fuel pumps produce the same amount of pressure which is only 20psi and are getting the right voltage.

It sounds like a severe case of RTFM.

Follow the procedure in the factory service manual.
Foxed.ca - Mazda RX-7 Manuals

If your car does not have a high pressure fuel filter, then you need to install one before the fuel injectors clog up and blow your engine. Use a 10 micron filter.

I think the reason for the low fuel pressure is that the o-ring on top the fuel pump was in 3 pieces. Haven't replaced it yet so not 100% sure yet. However I'm going to replace the fuel filter. Should I just replace it with an oem filter or is there a better filter out there for higher hp situations?
