loss of power please help

ok so im going to try and post this in here considering im new so idk... im desprate at this point and im trying not to be a post *****....

so long story short... ive basically lost half of my power in my 87 turbo II. it spits and sputters and is pretty much gutless now. my turbo will spool really fast but i dont feel any of the boost im reading. it gets crazy hot after a short drive. this all happend after my buddy thought he was helping my by trying to time my car. bad idea. ran great till he messed with it.. then everything went down hill.. timed it back to where it was and now this is going on.

another rotory buddy of mine told me its probably a clogged cat, pulled it off... punched it... still same problem... this is my dd and i have a job that i need to get to and not have to walk 5 miles to anymore. please help. any advice is greatly appreciated.

If you drove the car with messed up timing, you probably blew the engine. Time for a compression test.

Why was your "buddy" allowed to touch it? Sounds like he'll be paying for your new engine...

idk... he is a great mechanic... on piston motors. he is the one that has taught me everything in know... but when it comes to rotorys he is pretty blind. his heart was in the right place but... not his skills. the guy is pretty much my brother and i do forgive for what happened. just sucks.

It would be a lot better/cheaper going with a rebuild kit on the long run. If you get another engine, you still might have to rebuild it anyways.

He is not a great mechanic if he touched something knowing nothing about it.

The only issue with getting a rebuild kit is you will probably also need a rotor, housing and possibly a turbine blade. Apex seal chunks tend to take all three of these out when an turbo rotary pops.

well my turbo is still in great condition. checked it out when i went over the engine and she is just as great as before. so i think i might have gotten lucky with that one. and i dont think im going to rebuild it.. as much as i would like to, i just cant afford to take that much time. i need this car to get to and from work so im looking for a engine that is in decent condition still. and rebuild it when i actaully have time to.
