Looking at a rx7 is there going to be problems?

The other day I found a Rx-7 that looks to be a good deal and I happen to want one. It is a 1990 GXL. I emailed the guy and asked him some questions. Among them I asked who drove it and was he the orgional owner. Also recently asked a bunch of other questions that I haven't gotten an answer to yet. So his reply to the first couple were that he was not the original owner, but when he bought it the seals were blown and the engine has been rebuilt since then. He claimed that he maintained it well when he had it but obviously I have no clue if he did or not. I was just wondering if it is safe to buy this. I am a bit leery because of the fact that a seal was gone and that could mean damage to the inside of the motor, despite having a rebuild. From the pictures, it does look like its in good shape (however pictures can be decieving) and that it has most likely been sitting in a garage for a year or two. Its supposed to have 210 255km on it. I appreciate any input that the community may have as to whether it is safe to buy or not, as I am new to rotary engines. I have a basic understanding of how they work and how they should be maintained but not much more. I will provide more information as it becomes available. This is all of the information that I have as of now. Also would somebody please give advice on questions i should ask? I can put down what I already did ask if its needed. Thank-you in advance for replying to my questions and sorry that it is so long.

Obvious question is whether he has any evidence of the rebuild.

Beyond that, check out the FAQ threads stickied in this forum for Buyer's Guides.

Also, paragraphs are your friend.

First of all thank-you for the response.

Now I finally got ahold of the guy who's selling it and got some more info. He said that it was rebuilt by a shop that were supposed to be professionals. It took a couple of weeks. He also said that the motor was rebuilt less than 10 000km ago.
He said the transmition was original as far as he knew. He also said that he had mazda check it out and they said it was all good.

He said there were no electrical problems that he knew of. There is very little rust, some on the bottom edge of the driver side door and some on the muffler.

He said that he thought the suspension was good when he parked it.

He had to replace the fuel pump and put an after market pump in with a toggle kill switch. You need to turn it on and off. You have to shut it off when you turn off the car or else it'll flood.

He said there were no mods at all.

I believe that was all. Now I cant exactly check out the car because I live like 4hrs away. I am going to go near there soon and when I go I want to know if I want to buy it or not (after a final inspection of course)

Now the question again is does this sound like its in good shape, is it advisable to buy it. The price is quite good I feel.

The only issue is he said he drained the gas tank when he parked it (about a year ago) and it needs a battery. The other question I have is how hard it is to reprime it? Should you not be able just to turn on the fuel pump and let it run for a couple seconds (however long it takes) I'd like to be able to drive it before I buy it and I don't want to take it to a garage to prime it. (like he suggested) I did read the aaroncake guide to starting a car that has been sitting but I just want to confirm it with you guys. What do you think, what else should I do?
Thank-you in advance for replying.

Once again thank-you for the response.

Other than the fuel pump and switch, which I should have stated better, there are no mods. The kill switch is for the fuel pump only. The fuel pump doesn't shut off unless the switch is off. If you don't turn off the switch it'll flood, that's the only way it will flood on its own. So unless I'm stupid that seems to not be a problem unless you forget to turn off the pump.

Here are image urls, They aren't the best but they are something.

Sorry I didn't have time to post anything other than the links. Don't hesitate to tell me if I did something wrong. Also he wants 2000 for it but could probably get him down to 1500. I don't want to know just issues with it I would also like to know what you think about it and if its worth it. Thank-you again for your response.

1500 wouldn't be too,too bad.
I noticed a wet spot on the concrete under the car.Is that from the car?Check that out if so.
If you go to check it out,see if you can bring a Guy that knows about Rx7's to check it with you.
If not,at least when you get there make sure that you start the car COLD..If the guy has already started it,I would be a little leery.(to see if the engine smokes on start up).
Emission tests?..you need one where you live?.If so,make sure that the thing has a full exhaust and doesn't have Fart cans and straight pipe!
WHERE in Canada are you?..( I may be able to give you names of people to help you.)

Thank-you again for the response.
First I noticed the spot under the car too but sorta forgot about it, thanks for pointing that out.
Second, the car is located in Perdue SK, closest major city being saskatoon.
Third I may have somebody to come with me now, a family member knows someone who used to work at a Mazda dealership and work on them all the time. He also has his own car that doesn't sound very stock so he should know a thing or two about it. But in case that doesn't pan out I would appreciate knowing of anybody else that may be able to help.
I've never heard of emission tests in Saskatchewan so I'm probably OK there.
Also can you tell me if I should just be able to dump some gas in it, let the fuel pump run for however long it needs and then start it (being that it doesn't have gas in its tank and has been stored for a while) Aaroncakes guide to starting a stored car is very good but I'm not sure which to follow when having it started up, Improper or Proper? Would sitting in a garage for a year count as improper storage? Just some thoughts on that if you will.
Once again, thank-you for your replies.
