I've got an 85 GSL. I have the RB exhaust/headers, and frankly that's about as loud as I want to go since I'm using it now as my DD. Stock throughout the rest of the car. What do you suggest to get a little more oomph without adding significant noise, keeping in mind that this is a DD? I have 130k miles on it now, currently running like a purring kitten. Should I wait til I need a rebuild and put in 13B w/ EFI ... ? I've heard the Holley/Weber carbs are both much louder plus not as reliable or driveable as the Nikki.

Go to the salvage yards and get an intake manifold and carb that matches your year. Send them to Sterling for a complete work over. With the exhaust work done like you have, the improvement will be astonishing.

There is not much you can do to significantly improve your car past what you've done and keep it in stock form. Turbocharging would be the only thing that comes to mind, without rebuilding. When it's time for a rebuild you can go with a street port, that will add 20 or so HP. Most engine builders will have you go with the 86-91 motor as it's an easy swap, and the rotor housings in the SE are hard to come by. If you search this topic has been disscused. The Weber carb would give you a few more HP but I'm not sure how much. The stock FI does a pretty good job.

 

My bad here. I was thinking you had an SE. What Mario said, carb is the difference. Stay with the Nikki by Sterling or go Weber, DCOSP or 48IDA. A street port with a Weber will give you great power.

Hey, I think I posted a retraction. Man I have GSL-SE on the brain. My love is the 12a. We kick but on the SE race cars!!! I have an SE street car.

 

OK, but when I rebuild wouldn't a street port make the car MUCH louder? And as far as the intake, I've heard replacing mine with a '79 intake is a good boost - much less obstruction down the throat? Is that true?
