Looking for advice on RX7 FC Purchase
I've been looking for an RX-7 FC to replace my dying convertible. I came across one nearby (closest is a few hours away), and I had the seller send some videos of it running. It's supposedly on a stock ecu, and a fresh rebuild and clutch, but comes with a Microtech LT-10S that never got installed. He sent these videos, and it sounds like crap, I think. It's straight piped, but something just sounds wrong with the engine. He swears it's a fresh rebuild, and has good compression, but it sounds like my old 7 when the motor blew. Any guesses?
Edit: Contacted the seller again, the emissions system has been removed. He says it runs fine after warmup and in the higher revs.

welcome to the board.
This probably isn't the car for you. It sounds like you want a street cruiser. The car in the videos you posted is the opposite of that. It is heavily ported, so that's why it sounds like that. Furthermore, it needs to be sorted (the likely reason it includes the Microtech), so if you're not up for that, then just pass on this one and keep looking.
That said, why is your convertible "dying"? Is putting it back together not an option?
EDIT:
Nevermind. I see what's wrong with it: --> https://www.rx7club.com/new-member-r...power-1135320/
Why not rebuild it, or have it rebuilt? Seems like that would be cheaper than a completely new car, eh?

Actually, my plan was for a street/strip car, something with a bit of horsepower, but it won't be a daily for sure. I got the feeling it was ported, but the owner doesn't know much about it, and I wasn't 100% certain so I wanted to ask. I actually don't mind working on cars, sorting and tuning comes easy enough for me, my biggest concerns were compression and engine quality, the sound threw me off as I wasn't expecting a big port, and the owner wasn't sure either.
My convertible lost all compression on the rear rotor. I picked it up for salvage prices in an attempt to save it from the scrapper. Unfortunately, I moved recently and no longer have a garage, and the apartment complex I'm at doesn't take to kindly to engine pulling. I've already had one person complain because I compression tested the old one, so I'm trying to tread lighter with the neighbors and just replace it for one they can't argue because it does run. The convertible needs a rebuild, but because I can't pull the engine, I have to pass it along to someone with the space to rebuild. I want to send her to a good home

10-4. Got it.
Well, either way, the situation with that car sounds fishy to me, so unless you're willing to undertake that sort of potential headache, then I would still say pass on it. That car is for someone that has the time and resources to sort it out. If your neighbors can't deal with a blown engine, they probably won't be too amused with this car either.
