WV kenneth, 88gxl. in need of advice.

I recently bought the 88gxl with 130,000 for 500$. Its kind of rough but I have a 90gxl parts car that was hit by a truck. The car needed injectors so after I read that in 88 they switched to high impedance injectors and they should both be 460cc I figured I would use the s5 injectors. The clips were different so I cut and spliced the s5 injector clips on the 88. I hooked everything up and got it to start, blew some smoke out and after a few moments stopped smoking, car sat for a few years. It idles up like suppose to but then wants to die without keeping on the throttle. While I hold the throttle down at a certain rpm it will fluctuate up and down and not stay consistent. I eventually let it die but then it won't start again. I smell alot of fuel but I thought because of trying to start it multiple times. I have a fuel pump switch installed also. I took the fuel filter off blew through it, seems fine. Hooked it back up and started right up. But still behaved the same and hasn't started back up since. Ive taken the spark plugs out turned it over and ensured it was flooded, the gas looks brownish but I figured from the oil mixture. At the moment the oil is just above the low mark. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I don't know what it is but the cable that hooked up to the throttle body on the passengers side doesn't really seem to do anything.

Thanks in advance,
Kenneth.

drain your fuel and get clean gas in there.
The gas is not supposed to look brown and NO oil hits the gas Unless you have premixed the fuel.(well,it gets oil inside the engine when it gets injected.OMP ya know).
IF the car had NO resistor pack near the air box then the injectors would be HI Impedance(Check the FAQ thread Above in this section for Injector part numbers).
The S4 AFM(air flow meter) can corrode and the flapper inside can stick.
You can check this and either lube or take the Afm apart and clean it with some solvent and silicone spray.
I had a car that it was stuck SOLID.

I cleaned the AFM. Wasn't stuck but I cleaned it anyway. I drained the gas tank and put half a tank in it. Took the fuel filter off and blew through it, would I need to drain the gas any further near the primary and secondary injectors? Was difficult to get the line off so I left it. Still won't start tho. Could the TPS be a reason to not start? I took the plugs out again and I'm noticing a metallic like substance mixed with the fuel on the spark plug. Small amounts of white smoke comes from the tail pipe while I'm turning it over. Also I'm not certain but will the oil pressure gauge read anything while turning over? It just sits at zero.

Your injectors might need servicing.

You could have a low compression engine.

The water thermosensor might be not connected properly or operating normally.

You should have nothing metal like in the fuel. Not sure if it was a sealant installed in the engine to stop a coolant leak or pehaps the engine is degrading.

A TPS should not affect the starting of the car.

Having to fight a car to keep it running points to a vacuum leak.

Thanks for your replies. I'm thinking vacuum leak, I can jump start the car, but it won't idle and while holding the pedal down to keep it running it jumps rpm up and down. The o2 sensor wire was broken so I spliced some connectors on my S5 o2 sensor and used that. Thought maybe it might have made a difference but nothing changed. I put MMO in the chamber and let it sit for about 16 hers and about every 5 Hrs would turn the engine over by hand. The motor feels smoother and even started right up first time but after first time goes back to having to jump the car. Should I get some sea foam and spray it on various vacuum connections and hoses while the car is running to spot the leak?

I reused the intake gasket after installing the injectors. didn't think much of it at the time but that could be a big leak. What do you all think? How would that effect the cars ability to start up and idle properly? I just don't see any other vacuum leaks. If so where do you suggest ordering a gasket and anything else I should do while I'm there? Mazdatrix had them for 45$ and more after shipping, just seems crazy for a gasket. I have gasket material I could make one if that would work.

I've had good results with such a DIY intake gasket on my 20B between the Throttle Body and Upper Intake Manifold (UIM). Took 30mins to make, much faster than Mazdatrix could get one to me. Just pull the UIM to do this with, so things don't fall inside your engine.
