FC Alternator Upgrade?

Hi,
I'm looking into upgrading my alt so I can fit electric fans and a decent stereo system.
I saw the 130a Alternator sweetnes thread and the Taurus alt seems like the winner.
does the FD alt have any advantages?
also, if someone could help me out with the wiring? maybe some diagrams for dummies?
note that I'm a welder, not an electrician.

My car is a '86 GXL na

thanks

Sorry to be bringing up an old thread, I'm not too sure if I'm qualified to do so in the regular forum where the Ford Taurus alternator talk is.

I've recently scavenged a mint Taurus SE (or SEL?) 3.0L alternator from the junkyard. I totally forgot to get the wires, do I need them or will the one on my car suffice? If not, I can always go back there and retrieve it or purchase a new set.

Also, the ring where the alternator belt goes around is at least 2x's wider than my Turbo II stalk alt, do I just switch them around?

You will need to run a double pulley that is 17mm on the Ford Alt..
the chassis to alternator pigtail for the Ford alt will help with your install.

Mazdatrix, Atkins Rotary & Racing Beat all offer the correct pulley for retrofitting a FD alternator, it is the one you need.

As for wiring it up, follow this to the letter and it will work:

The proper choice of Taurus Alt is a 92-95 OHV V6, either 3.0 or 3.8L. Mine came from a 1994 Windstar 3.8L.
