Just bought a S5 TII for $50!

Actually could have gotten it for free but I felt bad and paid the guy $50 and told him I would give it a second chance at life. Dug around the trash and found a receipt for a Mazda re-manufactured engine and it's only got 5000 miles on it. The car sat in the same place for about 10 years and I have seen this car for the last 15 not moving much at all. Got his phone number from his parents and he finally called back almost a year later saying he has no place to store the car and was going to have it scrapped.. I said "I'll take the car but I want to pay you $50 and have it towed out of there and get it off your hands."

Got it running the first night and diagnosed some problems. (Bad TPS) But I boosted it around the block a few times and she is a strong runner.

Excuse the steam and poor cell phone pics but I just pressure washed about 10 pounds of moss and slime off the car and engine.

Already flushed the radiator, and changed the oil/filter. Fuel filter changed. The only part I bought for it was a clutch master cylinder since the old one was rusted solid. The TID has a small crack at the inlet of the turbo which I used some epoxy to close and seal. other than that all the rubber is soft and pliable. The turbo has very minimal shaft play. No in and out. Just a little up and down.

Small leak in the radiator, needs an oil cap, and new TPS sensors.

I've been into rotaries for a very long time. Some might know my screen-name from TeamFC3S. I've worked for Pineapple Racing in the past doing custom installs, fabrications and tuning.

Only question I really do have is besides the point it has a FET Turbo timer and separate boost sensor (original is still hooked up) is how high does the stock boost gauge go? It reaches about 1/4 up from zero in first and second gear. If I can recall a stock S4 TII will nearly peg the factory boost gauge.

Open up Google Earth and put this into the coordinates. Or even Google maps then use street view.

45°31'01.61" N 122°35'32.98" W

Then start using the historical imagery.

I could have just taken it for free since the new owners of the building wanted it out of their parking lot. But I said I would give him $50 for it and he agreed. I met with him and filled out a bill of sale and he handed the keys over. I had it towed the same night.

Trolling?

I was givin ya ****. chill. dont take me the wrong way. . good steal on the car. and relax. but an engine that sits ten years in a field? Might not be in good shape.. I should say back alley. not feild. My rx7 would not last in a back alley for ten years

i don't get people sometimes...

why didn't he just sell it before letting it sit and rot for 10 years? could have gotten $5k+ for it back then, assuming the paint hadn't flaked off yet.

hell, a few hundred bucks and he could have gotten $3k for it in it's current state, with the rebuilt motor and all.

Good find!

You might've saved yourself a lot of hassle by giving the guy 50 bucks. I got a first gen for 50 bucks once... the girl needed to get rid of it before a move and didn't want to fool with selling it. She was going to just give it away but I gave her 50 bucks which was all I could spare at the moment. When I got it home and tried to register it, I told the clerk that the car was pretty much just given to me. She said I would have to get a "gift form" filled out by the original owner and do a lot of paperwork. I said, "Well... I did give her 50 bucks." She said, "Fair enough." She charged me $4 and change for tax plus the plate/title fee and sent me on my way!

Your state probably isn't as lenient as TN (I don't think any state is), but it's something to keep in mind. Did you get a title with it?

you ****!
just purely scraping the car the owner could have gotten 200 bucks. Some people are dumb and some (you) are lucky!

congrats on a fun find.

California is similar. Although a simple two sentence bill of sale signed by the seller for $50 would be a good idea.

awesome find.. i remember when my dad's now ex gf bought him a 90 blue gtu a few years back.. it then started running like crap and he left it at her place.. Him living in Kansas I never saw the car, but wish i could have got to look at it. I always told him it was probably something stupid simple like the TPS. He split from her years ago and got married, so he didnt care to keep in touch.. i wonder what happened to that car.. I was in kansas a few months ago and i should have talked him into letting me try to find it.

Ugh.. 20 posts til I can create a thread.

Does anyone know how high the stock boost gauge should read under full boost in first and second gear??

Mine shows about the 3rd bar up from Zero. Wonder if it could be off due to the extra pressure sensor for the FET Turbo Timer.
