A part produced in and for Japanese production cars I guess. I guess it originally applied to engines according to what Aaron said.

How can you tell if you have a J-spec engine and is there any difference between them performance wise?

Post a picture. There is no performance difference between J-spec and US/European (and Australia?)-spec FC engines. There are few differences, and they're mostly emissions related only.

The phrase "Rotary Turbo with Intercooler" and the air pump shape seem to indicate it is a J-spec engine.
