Intercooler questions

i was looking to get a Borgwarner EFR plus lots of other upgrades looking at around 450 hp and was wondering if the stock 89 TII intercooler could hold that much power around 14 PSI?

If not how much is a new FMIC + piping and everything?

Thanks

No, you should upgrade the intercooler if you're going to be forcing that much air through it. The cost of an aftermarket FMIC depends highly on what you're looking at, and if you're going to be fabbing anything yourself.

that much psi and air has to get cooled.
What's the car the engine going in? An FC?

This FMIC will work:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mazda...Q5fAccessories

The hot side tubing is 2.25".
Installed pictures below.

In my case, had to do some minor mods. The holes on the elbow didn't line up w/ the studs in the Throttle Body. Also had to shorten the turb section connecting to the elbow to make the bend between the A/C line and power brake fluid reservoir.

Note you will no longer have the bumper structure.

And for the record, your stock fuel system, cooling system and clutch also won't handle that kind of power.

call me crazy, but with that much power comes need for upgraded brakes due to overheating and brake fade, your gonna need better suspension (you need to keep the tires on the ground) etc...

i was on ebay looking for a FMIC also but was going to go with the GODSPEED for 399 shipped. i was wondering why you went with this system instead of the godspeed? im sure it wasnt just to save $ but if your DIY kit makes more sense than i may get that instead of the GS myself

This kit is likely the same kit you'll find under different names. I picked my kit up from a performance shop in El Monte, CA (I don't recall the shop's name). The box had no brand name. All the parts in the the kit you see are identical to mine. The cold side tubing should be 2.75". I don't know what you mean by DIY. Others on this site that have binstalled these kits mentioned having to do the same mods mentioned above. Additionally, you'll be making holes on the frame for the tubing and the bumper cover will require material removal.

If you are shopping eBay intercoolers, be sure to have the seller send pictures of the INSIDE of the end tanks so you can confirm there is internal finning in the core. Some eBay intercoolers don't have internal finning, just straight tubes, which are far less efficient.

Good point. Mine does have the internal fins.

I picked mine up from here:
http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sgv...512517712.html

They had advertised on RX7CLUB.COM. At the time it was advertised as X02.
