Inside of airbox covered in engine oil (stock FD3S)
Hey guys, this will be my first forum post here, except for the introduction post.
The FD is currently sitting in the garage because of 2 things: the secondary turbo isn't coming online, and I wanted to replace the air filter.
I spent the other night removing all hoses to the airbox, and after removing the top cover, I noticed the OEM filter was covered in engine oil, and the inside of the plastic airbox also had a film of engine oil on it. Pictures below:
My first idea was that there could be a problem with the PCV system when the engine is under boost, so I checked the manual, and the PCV system seems surprisingly simple:
My MR2 has an OEM oil seperator between the crankcase and the intake of the turbo, but according to this schematic, the FD doesn't seem to have this, so oily air should eventually be sucked into the turbo's, and I guess this oil can enter the airbox during blow-off when you let go of the throttle. Any experiences or ideas are very welcome, because I'm quite new to this car.
This isn't really related to this topic, but I think my secondary turbo isn't coming online because there is a problem with the vacuum tank, and perhaps the check valve going to it. Most vacuum hoses I've seen are flexible and look almost brand new, so I suspect the vacuum tank. Maybe oily air has entered the check valve, making it difficult to operate.
If you have any ideas or past experiences, I'm all ears...
