Ignition timing
Ignition timing
We have a 1986 RX7 non turbo. We set the leading timeing mark with a inductive timeing light OK but when checking the trailing it was off. If we reset the trailing then the leading is off. As there is only one setting that affects both is there a way to correct this. One thing when setting the rpms were above 1000. Could this be our problem?
You can't set the timing unless the engine is idling below ~1000 RPM. Above that point, the ECU will advance timing on its own. Bring the idle speed down, and you'll be able to adjust it correctly.
Thanks for the help. I will try that when my son gets back from Seattle. He was in a hurry and I kept telling him he had to get the idle down. It is hard to convince a nineteen year old you might know what you are talking.
