idled, then died! SLC, Utah.

I just bought the 86 FC and brought it home. I checked everything before I bought I and everything was perfectly normal. The engine ran strong and there were no leaks.

next day, I started it up, it went up to about 3k rpm and then dropped below 1k. Did that twice, and then it just died on me. After a second attempt to start it, it was normal. However, the coolant light popped up. I turned it off, popped the hood and checked the coolant. I was hoping it was just low on coolant, BUT..it was full, popped the cap off and it looked like there was black liquid in there with the coolant. Im praying that its not oil.. but that's my problem I encountered yesterday.

called up nearest Mazda dealer and said they to bring it in for a check up. doing that Monday. anyone have any ideas what might've led to this?

im hoping its not the head gasket..
