Question ID this sensor plz 85 GS

I'm guessing it's an O2 sensor from the old exhaust but can't find it in the Haynes manual anywhere. It's just been hanging under the car for years. The wire goes up into the car under the drive side seat. Leave it hanging or cut it off? Thanks!

I'm not a 1st gen guy.But I can recall a Sensor being called an "exhaust overheat" sensor?
Something like a "Thermal type" sensor that tells you if your exhaust is too hot.
I am assuming that is That Sensor.
I'll let the 1st gen guys go into it more.

Ah right, I recall reading briefly about something like that. That would make more sense to me than an O2 sensor as the car is carbed. Thanks.

It looks to me like the Catalyst Themo Sensor. See page 4A-30 in the Factory Service Manual, although it could also be the heat hazard sensor (page 4A-30 & 4A-31 in the FSM)

that is the exhaust thermal over temp probe that would fit in the heat shield tin over the stock exhaust. yes it can be removed, but was installed for a reason at the factory.
