I need some help from the pros!! please!
I have a couple questions. 1st i have a 86 gs with full 88 turbo II swap and it is running really rich. everything seems stock that i can tell. now the o2 is not hooked up and im curious how much that will richen the system or matter?? second question, i have a friend rebuilding my 87 s4 N/A which had bad water jackects and a bad apex in rear housing. he told me that you can swap the housings and use turbo II housings from a s4 which he says are easier to port then N/As because of some baffles and that i can just swap tII housings and keep the rest N/A. is this true?? Im just trying not to get ripped off...... thank you guys!! Jared
If your 02 sensor is not hooked up right it'll possibly run rich! I'm a new rotary person my self but I do work on highly modified piston engines! I know all the engines run pretty similar! When you don't have 02 sensor hooked up, it can't send signal to the ecru how much fuel it needs, and it'll either lean it or rich it out! Get that repaired as soon as possible, because it's the little detail parts that makes big cost fixes in the future!
JJ.
About the second question I couldn't answer that because I just got my rx-7 last month and I still haven't touched it yet!

Don't just go twisting screws until you have eliminated mechanical failure.
First, that screw only adjusts idle mixture.
So, give the car a complete tuneup. Fluids, plugs, check timing, etc. etc. Have the injectors professionally cleaned. Check the operation of the ECT as per the instructions in the FSM.
Only then should you consider messing with the idle adjustment.
Oh, and fix that O2 sensor. It is only used during cruise, but at least worth a MPG or two.
Now, you can swap rotor housings across many different engines. It would not be uncommon to use the easier to find NA housings in place of harder to find TII housings in a rebuild. The only real difference is that the TII housings have water passage for the intake manifold (easily drilled out on the NA housing as the casting is there already) and that the NA housings have exhaust diffusers. The diffuser can be ground out, or TII sleeves swapped in.
