How start Issues

Im not New to the rotary but this is my first Rx7 I have an 83 Street port that likes to start up cold but that takes a few cranks before it starts and when its hot it wont start unless I push the car and compression start it

I have checked my compression with a cheap tester from the parts store and it shows that my compression went up when the engine was hot

The other thing I noticed is when Im driving around my car likes to back fire when I let off the gas every now and then could that be my car and is that a sign of that my engine is out of time?

Your timing may be off or spark advance not working correctly, but before you do anything, what sort of compression numbers were you seeing?

when I was using the cheap compression tester I was seeing about 80-90 Psi on the top 2 when cold and that jumped to about 120-130 Psi when Hot

and on the bottom 2 I was seeing 60-80's PSI when cold and that jumped up to 90-110 area

Use the bottom spark plug holes, and look for three readings per rotor. Also, remember to hold the throttle wide open while cranking the engine.

might just be flooded, next time it wont start unplug the fuel pump and try. If it fires up then dies then you know you have a flooding issue.
