how much coolant does 93 fd take

was wondering how to tell when coolant is topped up. the over flow tank is pretty nicely hidden so it is hard to tell. An approximate number would be great !

and just making sure 80 percent water to 20 percent coolant is the right ratio for the summer

I can't recall offhand if it's 10qts or what, but that's not very important. What's much more important is making sure you get all of the air out of the system. You need to fill at the cap above the belts and it will take some doing to get air up and coolant down. Reach down under /behind your air intake and squeeze the radiator hose to shake the air bubbles free. The coolant is full when it's up to the top of that cap and the system can't take any more. It will take a long time.

I still find I need to take a short drive to get the thermostat to open and circulate out all of the air. On that drive take a big crappy towel and more water/coolant so that if the low coolant buzzer goes off, you can pull over, carefully release the pressure cap with the towel so you don't get burned, and top off. If you don't get the buzzer on your drive, let the car sit and cool and then top off.

The best answer is one of those coolant bleeder bottles that screws on where the cap goes. Then you just idle the car with that thing full of coolant and it will expel the air quickly.

Here is a link to the 3rd gen FAQ thread:
https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/faq-3rd-gen-other-useful-links-68640/

Scroll down to the C section where you will see a list of very good coolant related threads - including a few on how to bleed the coolant system of air as Dave referred to.

Good luck.
