Make sure to get all the air out of your cooling system. If you don't, it will boil and render your coolant ineffective. Did you replace the cap/stat with OEM or aftermarket? As far as the a/c, you need to adjust your idle a bit.
The mouse belts on your s5 (89-91) are problematic- but there was a factory recall that I believe is still being honored by the dealerships. You may want to investigate this a bit further.

my friend is having this same problem with his fc s2. we replaced the water pump and flushed the radiator and its still having problems with just boiling out of the over flow. i made sure that we got all the air i knew of. including using the bleeder valve. and then running with the cap open while flushing it with 50/50 coolant mix. but the problem continues. alls i can see wrong is a oil line came off but i fixed that off one of my other cars. and the problem continues. if someone could help that would be very helpful to the southern Idaho rotary community as well as this guy.

it doesnt smell like smoke from bad apex seals, it smells like bad gas. i think he used the wrong octane and old gas. could that contribute to the problem. but doesnt explain the overheating. i

What problem does the recall cover exactly? is it any problem with the belts in a s5 or a certain problem? because my seat belt light tends to stay on every once in awhile even when they are buckled...or am i just having a wiring problem? haha
