HELP!!! Dreaded starting issues!!!!!
This is my first Rotary, it was my grandfathers car. He recently gave it to me because it sat in his driveway for the past 4 yrs and he was sick of airing up the tires every few days!! I pulled the plugs and oiled the cylinders, put a somewhat fresh battery in. Found out I had a bad fuel pump, replaced it, still not even an attempt to start. Turns over good, I know I have spark, compression, and fuel at the injectors.
I know the main relay is good & fuses are good. I also know that if I stand there with a can of ether she'll run. I do have to prop the "flapper" open on the box under the airbox to get my pump to work, for what thats worth!! I know very little about this engine. I dont know what conditions have to be met for this thing to start. And the primary inj. look like they wont be fun to get to check. Any tricks, diagnostics that a poor, rotary stupid dude can perform, please let me know!!!!
Thank you in advance for any advise!!
new dummy!!
sounds to me like the primary injectors arent firing a lot of times when you let ne thing mechanical sit you get these kind of gremlins..try taping on the primaries but you would have to remove the manifold or take them out and try to hook them up direct to battery with a pigtail of the injector plug and see if they click open im sure this is the problem
I too think its the injectors but I just want to make sure all the conditions are met that the computer is looking for prior to allowing the inj. to fire. What about the airflow meter? I have to prop it open so the fuel pump will run, but does it matter how far I have to keep it open? I really dont want to have to tear into this thing!!
Thank you . . . can the injector handle a straight 12v from the batt.?

You might want to change the fuel filter also. inspect all the fuel lines and drain the old gas and put some fresh gas in. My Rx7 that i just bought sat for 4 years also. Changed the fuel pump/filter/hoses and put some fresh gas in and it fired right up. Old gas that sits for a long period of time loses it octane rating. It will foul your plugs in a heart beat

try this Address: www.aaroncake.net This guy knows his Rotary Stuff.he has a write up on getting the car going after long periods of down time.Good Luck.STYX.(oh just to add,I think it's fuel too.so clean the lines, and take out the plugs, roll over..Squirt a "bit" of oil in the plug holes, roll over engine, put plugs back in and try to start it)..PS:.,read Aaron's write up first so you know what you are doing..as there are no cylinders in a rotary engine!

Ok, quick update . . . Flushed tank out real good, and replaced fuel filter, then flushed the lines real good. Put good fresh gas in and . . . . . . same thing, turns over with no attemt to fire. I've read the Aaroncake "write up" and performed all the suggested "tips" already. I think I'm going to have to just pull the uim and dynamic chamber and whatever else to test the primary injectors. please someone tell me I'm wrong and point me in another direction!!!!! I'm not lookin foreward to tearin this down!!!

Before you pull the top end off, make sure that you have fuel pressure to the fuel rails. Put a pressure gauge on the incoming fuel line at the engine. It is the one coming out of the black canister (fuel filter) on the firewall.
Also, there is a two pin connector over by the air cleaner, if you put a jumper wire between the two pins, your fuel pump should run with just the key on. Without that the fuel pump will only run if you are turning the engine over.
