Angry HELP! cant shift to reverse

I have a 93 FD, went for a quick burn and when I went to park I couldn't get it into reverse. I dont think I lost the gear because it wont even go into the slot, no grinding nothing... any suggestions?

try playing with it. keep the clutch in. put it in 4th, then reverse sometimes it'll just slip in
if that doesn't work
put it as close into reverse as possible let out the clutch slowly and before it hits the slipping point it should slide in.
at that point you should just be able to engage into reverse like normal.

Two possibilities:
1) A problem with the shift forks
2) Your 5th synchro is crunched and the loose pieces are blocking you from getting into reverse.

But I wouldn't rule out clutch trouble either.

If you can't find a good rotary shop in your area, any good transmission shop should be capable. The transmission/clutch in the FD are very much serviceable by a general mechanic.

I have a 94 RX7 and the exact same thing happened. Wouldn't budge even if I played with the clutch or rocked the car back n forth. It's in the shop now so I'll keep you posted or you can message me for an update.

I'd have to agree with dgeesaman too. It's likely that debris caught in the detents at the end of a shift rod or in between the rods. Problem too if the little ***** that lock into the detents have burrs.

My 5th gear always had a minor grind but now, it's a bit notchy and the grind is slightly worse. Plus, given the location, my guess is the syncro is the culprit.

Last thing, the reverse sensor is in that area. Might be possible for it to hang up my shifter. Only true way to tell is to pull the tranny apart. I'm debating whether or not to repair or replace the tranny. We shall see... good luck with your repairs.

thanks for the tips but still no luck. I rocked the car, rolled it, forced it, let the clutch out, shifted from every gear combo possible, engine on and off and still nothing not even a grind. All my forward gears are good even 5th has no grinding at all. Maybe it is the reverse sensor as racerrex90 suggested. Or the shift fork. I was hoping i wouldn't have to drop the tranny but it sounds like i'm out of options right now. Thanks again. I will post what the problem was when I find some time to fix it
