Hey guys, for a long time ive always wanted a 1993 fd3s mazda rx7, but i was never old enough, and parents never had the money. But now ive found a 1993 mazda rx7 for 9500! and has a brand new series 7 jdm motor(only 28k miles on it). The car is an excellent condition, except for some minor interior pieces that are scratched or missing. I know that the rx7 is very high mainteance and expensive. I know the oil has to be changed every 3,000 miles, the 5th gear synchronizer usually goes bad, the hoses can be a pain in the ***, and last but not least the cooling system needs to be upgraded. But what else am i missing? that i need to know more about the car before i buy? the guy lives 1000 miles aways so i want him to go get a compression test and have a mechanic test drive it. Any thought and second opinions would help tremendously!

Just make sure ur ready for it. When I bought my fd it had a few trim parts missing and I thought what the hell I should be able to find them with ease, lol. You seem to be pretty darn informed. Best of luck.

 

Be careful when buying from 1000 miles away. Motor can have great compression but bad coolant seals. Could have damage you can't see. Google buying a used RX7 and there will be a write up on buying an FD and everything you should look for and do before buying. I wouldn't trust it to anyone except yourself after becoming as informed as you can. 9500 seems cheap but it can easily turn into 19500 if you are not careful. Most mechanics, if they are not rotary mechanics know little to nothing about what to look for. Read up, learn all you can, and fly out and check the car out yourself. You will be glad you did.

I'm new here and I've found a ton of info. Like Loki said, you seem pretty well informed, but there's something's you don't want to miss.

Like the boost. Is it holding proper boost?

Also, I'd get the VIN # and look it up. Just to be safe. $25 carfax seems to be an easier option than traveling 1000 miles.

I too am looking at getting an FD and I just rode along in it and already I have a few new questions. I can say from a car buyers perspective, that before you convince yourself that this is the right car, you get a thorough look at it. Inside and out. Anyone can tell you it's good, but if you don't see it first hand then you won't know for sure.

I'd say go look at it if at all possible with money in hand to buy. But, also shop around and don't settle on something because you convinced yourself it was a good buy. I'm sure there's other FD's out there that need good home!
