GXL Tranny whine

Yeah, it sounds like the main bearing (or input shaft bearing as you put it). Replacing it means tearing down the whole transmission, and once there you can also run into trouble finding the correct bearing to fit it. My old NA transmission developed this problem, and I ended up getting it rebuilt & had the housing machined to accept and bigger, stronger main bearing.

Thanks, are the rx7 transmissions pretty straight forward or complex? ive tore other m/t appart before but they were simple. Were did you get your bearing, maching and how do you know that it is stronger?

I didn't do the rebuild myself. Just getting to the main bearing means taking everything completely out of the housing. And the bearing that was used was larger / more heavy duty. There was apparently a problem finding an exact replacement for the original, so scaling up was the only choice.
