I have an 85 GS. I really want the original tank simply because of baffles but they are very expensive. $635 from a Mazda dealer near me. Mine is very rusted out on the inside and the prior owner decided to cut a hole in the top to clean it. (failed) This makes me lean towards a fuel cell. Anyone have experience with them?

 

Buy a used tank and save money.
They are out there.

 

Any specific place one should look?

Also try eBay Motors and car-part.com. I was able to pick up a nearly perfect used gas tank for my FC to replace my old, rusted one.

 

Thanks. I will keep an eye out. For now i went with a foam filled poly cell. Poly fuel lines and push fittings. It was all way cheaper than the standard rout and more durable. No worry about corrosion or disintegration.

 

A half dozen or so FB's end up in the local U-Pull-it lot near me (Omaha area) ever year. I get notifications on my phone. One not long ago had a pretty nice bolt-in roll-bar. I bet it wouldn't cost more than $40.

 

go with the gas tank buy a used one saves you a lot of money try ebay , craigslist or junk yard good luck hope you find one

I think the only reason to move to a fuel-cell would be if you were doing an engine swap or a set up requiring EFI.

 

Now it will be ready if i decide to.
