fuel sender help

Has anyone had trouble with their fuel sender? My gauge moves extremly slow after I put fuel in it and it won't go all the way to full when i fill it up. I can't seem to find any info on the fuel sending unit so i'm assuming its part of the fuel pump assembly. Please someone correct me if im wrong on this. I was thinking about pulling it out of the tank this weekend and trying to clean it up and replacing the fuel pump sock while i was in there. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The sender is replaceable. I've thought about replacing mine, since the gauge moves quicker for the first half of the range, but I just got used to setting the trip on fill-ups. If you pull the pump assembly, be sure to soak the small screws holding it in the tank in penetrant first. They are often rusted, and can snap off. Some people even replace them with hex-head screws to avoid problems later on.
