Fuel Injector Interchangeability?

I've done a fair bit of research and haven't found too much on the subject on injector interchangeability. What modern injector can I swap into my fc? I *think* that I read somewhere that Bosch EV14s would work in place of the original injectors (with spacers maybe?) Using the stock rail. (I know the connectors would be different) That being said, I'm open to dropping funds on an aftermarket rail if it'll allow me to do this, I just dont know of any produced.

I want to ditch the older injector design so I can find some new, quicker injectors that have, more aftermarket support. Maybe I'm looking at this wrong?

Welcome to the board.

At the end of the day, what are you hoping to accomplish? I only ask because I can get wanting to have better injectors, but I'm not sure if they would do anything different if they are being driven by the same "old" ECU and the same old parameters.

If you're S5 NA, then you could run Rx-8 injectors. I've seen a handful of people do that. If you are fairly stock T2, you could do the same, but then you have to look for specific Rx-8 models to get the injectors from. They are high impedance, so keep that in mind if your car is S4. I don't know how the OEM computer would need to deal with that. You will also need to adapt Denso-style clips/pigtails if you are S4.

Outside of that, just find injectors that fit your needs. You have the bigger size (14 mm, I think) inlets on your injectors, and in terms of lengths, there are adapters to lengthen them, or ways to space the rail.

Thanks for the welcome!

My idea behind newer injectors was finding a more common injectors platform, as in I see high flow Bosch stuff all the time, but not so much ours. Also, I think we have better spray patterns now?
(Figures though, right after posting this I found higher-flowing versions of the original type)

I'm pretty new to this stuff, so I don't know too much of what people usually like to do with fuel on their FCs.

I'm working with a s4 t2, 87'. It's been sitting for 14 years up until last year, so everything (fuel related, vacuum lines, etc) is a bit crusty. I'm rebuilding the motor, and kinda want to do away with the nest of vacuum lines and such. My end goal is to build a motor (block and supporting details) that will be friendly to tuning in the future.

Well, as long as all is original, you should low impedance 550s in your car. I honestly don't know how your computer would deal with anything other than some sort of direct replacement without a piggy-back or something. I imagine if you look enough, you can find "newer" injectors that fit those parameters. That said, (and this is just my personal take on it) I'm not sure if you wouldn't be better served just cleaning/rebuilding yours IF your plan is to go standalone in the future (like you seemed to hint at).

I just linked this for someone else, and thought of you. Maybe it can be of some use to you, too.

That link is pretty awesome, thanks! I'll probably just try to source replacements/rebuilds/modified injectors as mine are pretty gross. And yeah, eventually I do plan on going standalone. Thanks for the help, by the way.
